What's in a Name?
We
would like to welcome the following new members: Thomas Mitchell, Martin &
Bruce Faland, Charles Lamar, John Nystrom, Ralph Stohiquist, Robert Rust,
Raymond Bottiglione, Steven Goshko, Alan Havlicek, Frank & Frankie Skrzecz,
John Wolff, Eric & Gunars Mencis, Julius Zschau, Harold Oesterreich, Henry
Day, James Ammirati, and Charles Olsen. We would also like to encourage these
members to actively participate in CLRC activities. Say hello to them at the
next run-meet.
Enclosed
with this newsletter is a separate, double-sided sheet with the names of those
members who do not have their E-mail address, if they have one, listed with our
Membership Director, Rich Thayer. If your name is on the list and you have
E-mail service, notify Rich, preferably by slow mail or by leaving a message on
the club hot line. You can write Rich at the return address listed on the
newsletter envelope. Call or write Rich if you do not have internet E-mail
service. Be sure to include your name and membership number on any
correspondence. In the upcoming
weeks we will be sending our newsletter electronically. Rich Thayer also
suggests that if you don't have an e-mail address, that you might try setting
one up through your local library.
They might be able to use www.google.com/
as an e-mail server. Sending the newsletter electronically will allow for a more
timely and economical way of letting you know what is happening in the club on
a regular basis.
OTHER CLUB NEWS
FUTURE
RUN-MEETS - It is the intention
of the Board to run trains every Saturday. Besides being a run-meet the
following days are designated:
First
Saturday on even numbered months will be a Board Meeting, The next Board
Meeting will be August 5, 2006.
Any regular member is welcome to attend. You must be there at the start of the
meeting at 9:30 A.M.
Second
Saturday of the month is a general membership and business meeting in which
regular members may participate. The next meeting will be on June 10, 2006 at
10 A.M. Trains run afterwards.
The
third Saturday of the month is a general run-meet date.
Fourth
Saturday is a workday. This may include general clubhouse or layout
maintenance.
Check
the timetable on the club website or ask a Board member about a specific date.
On
Saturday, June 10 immediately
following the general meeting, Brian Valleau will give a presentation on
prototypical railroad signals. His first-hand experience is sure to make this
an interesting and informative session. Trains will run after his
demonstration.
These
are the unfinished jobs, which members are asked to help complete. Following
the specific task is the contact board member in charge of the job.
1)
Painting the interior of
the clubhouse, putting up molding, finishing the stairs, kitchen, and
restrooms, etc. – Bob Ciolino
2)
Building a workshop and
bench system for the Backshop. – Bob Ciolino
3)
Finish repairing,
sanding and staining the second upright display cabinet – Lyle Eimen
4)
Improvements of the
modular and small layout. – John Flinn
STORAGE
LOCKERS –Storage lockers at
the clubhouse are still available for your train equipment. Two 6'x 8' lockers
are ready and rent for $75 /month. Four smaller 3'x3'x16" which rent for
$15/month are also available. Check with Herb Koch or Bob Ciolino for details.
CLUB
CARS – John Flinn reports
that the following club cars are still available:
1)
in the "City" series
- New Haven, Los Angeles, New
Orleans, New York
2)
in the Great Northern
work set – the tool car, crew car, welding caboose, and racing crew car
can still be ordered
3)
in the time zone boxcar
series – a few UP, Burlington, and ACL are available
4)
CNW Cylindrical Hoppers
in green and yellow are available

Finally
be sure to check the July, 2006 issue of Classic Toy Trains, page 80,
for our ad for the latest club cars – the UP "City of San Francisco" and
the Rock Island "Rocket".
MEMBERSHIP
– You should find, enclosed
with the newsletter, a membership card. This is the first time the club
is issuing these. Please have it on your person when you are at the clubhouse
and present it to the Yardmaster if you intend to run trains. It will tell
those concerned that you are a regular member in good standing. It's always
good to know to whom you are talking at the clubhouse, so we would like to
encourage you to purchase a red nametag and to wear it at the run-meets and
special events. Contact Rich Thayer and order a nametag if you don't have one.
