The CLRC Officers and Directors would like to wish you a very happy New Year.
LOOKING BACK AT 2002
The December 13th Holiday party and run-meet was the culmination of a very busy year for the CLRC. Your club participated in two Boy Scout railroading merit badge jamborees, a mall show, two national conventions, and hosted another fun-filled summer picnic.
The holiday party was also fun for kids of all ages. The children enjoyed running trains on the layout which was set up at the lower level. Each child also received a personal photo taken with Santa Claus, who had a special gift for all the children.
There are a number of people who deserve a special thanks for contributing to the success of this party: To those who set up and took down the layout,
To Herb Koch who tows our trailer with a lot more than eight reindeer and who ordered the food,
To our local train dealers who contributed gifts for our raffle, namely, Berwyn's Toy Trains & Models, 7025 Ogden Ave., Berwyn; Chicagoland Hobby, 6017 N. Northwest Hwy, Chicago; and Trains and Cars of Yesterday, 7923 W. Golf Rd, Morton Grove. (Winners of the door prizes should be sure to redeem their certificates at these shops.)

Prior to Santa's arrival, Herb Koch awarded the 2002 President's Service Award to Dan Olech. Congratulations, Dan!
LOOKING AHEAD TO 2003
The schedule of activities for the first half of the upcoming year is on our web site. A handy reference copy appears at the end of this newsletter. Whether you are a long-time member or a new member, you are encouraged to attend and get involved in these events. Please note the following:
January 10, 2003 - Run-Meet at Proksa Park 4:30 - 10 P.M.
The date and location for the February run-meet has been changed to January 31,2003. Please check the Time Table below for exact location and directions.
The dates for the Spring Hill Mall Run will be 2/15/and 2/16, 2003. Set up will be Friday, 2/14/03 starting at about 8:45 P.M. Contact John Flinn if you can help set up, run trains, or take down. His number is (847) 541-7339.
Board of Directors Meeting has been changed to February 28, 2003 from 7 P.M. -Midnight. Contact President Herb Koch for location. Members are always welcome.
Set aside March 7, 2003, for the annual business meeting. The exact location will be announced later.
April 25, 26 & 27, 2003 - Burlington, Iowa, Boy Scout Railroad Merit Badge weekend. This is shaping up as a unique event. The layout will be set up in a restored railroad station. There will be a special fireworks display on the evening of the campfire. There will be either some rolling stock or locomotives for viewing on a nearby siding, and there may be a trip to the nearby Burlington repair shops. If you are able to participate contact Herb Koch at (708) 361-2483. This would be a good time to meet some of our members from Iowa and nearby states, and for them to run their trains on the club layout. Maybe we'll see you there.
May 16, 17 &18, 2003 - Boy Scout Railroad Merit Badge Camp-o-ree, Iroquois Chapter, will be held at Camp Hoover in Yorktown, IL. More details later.
June 28, 2003 - Annual Club Picnic at Illinois Live Steamers. Details to be announced later.

OTHER CLUB BUSINESS
MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL - If your address label says "Expires 2/2003," it's time to renew your membership. Enclosed is a renewal form which may be returned to Rich Thayer by mail or in person when you see him at the next run-meet. Please try to get your renewal in as soon as possible! Also patches with the club logo are available, and may be ordered at the time that you renew your membership. They will be shipped with your newsletter.
CLRC ENGINE UPGRADE KITS AND ENGINEER DECAL S - The upgrade kits are available at about 25% off the list price. Contact Herb Koch for more information or to order. If you ordered decals for your club locomotive, contact John Flinn for your set.
CLUB CARS - An order form listing the club cars and locomotive that are still available for order is enclosed with this newsletter. Our inventory is limited, so, if you have been putting off purchasing any of these cars, now is the time to send in your order. They are available for immediate shipment!
While on the subject of club cars, the CLRC board is presently working on ideas for the 2003 club car. More details later.
OTHER CLUB CARS - Swav Kojro has again taken it upon himself to consolidate orders for club cars from other railroading clubs. If you wish to order any of these cars you must pick them up at a run-meet.
To order the Milwaukee Club car send a check for $66 made out to the Lionel Railroad Club. The deadline is May 15, 2003 with delivery in December. To order the St. Louis Club car send a check for $60 made out to the St. Louis Lionel Railroad Club. The deadline is March 15, 2003.
